Background

Ball State is a leading Midwestern university that was established early in the 19th century. It has more than 170 undergraduate and pre-professional programs, as well as more than 100 masters and doctoral programs. Many of these are consistently recognized nationally.

Ball State had outgrown a well-known CMS product and decided to replace the solution with Sitecore. Their sophisticated organizational structure meant that there were significant challenges in implementing a new CMS, in that they had 250 separate sites that were published by various departments and organizations across the campus.

Solution

When they came to non~linear creations (NLC), Ball State University had already been through an aggressive and challenging implementation with a firm that was not resourced to deploy a project of this complexity.

The NLC team set to work, conducting an audit of existing systems via our proven CMS consultancy framework and rapidly identified a successful deployment roadmap. After gaining buy-in from relevant departments, we began to deploy new functionality that had been missing in the previous build—including crucial online features such as messaging, online form creation, tracking and content aggregation.

Outcome

Ball State's successful partnership with NLC has ensured that the online site performs well and contains functionality that reflects the status of this leading educational establishment. Soon after the launch, Ball State was awarded the Sitecore Site of the Year for North America. Selected from a pool of more than 1,400 customers, BSU was recognized for creating effective business processes and enriching their online strategies via their partnership with NLC.

BSU's online presence is now effectively supporting the university's goals of expanding their marketing reach and deepening relationships with current, past and prospective alumni.
